Koreans like to refer to BDSM as SM for short. In the understanding of SM culture, traditional Koreans and modern Koreans seem to be inclined to two sides of it. Traditional Korean culture advocates that men are strong and women are submissive. So far, many older women have the word “shun” in their names. And modern young people have the opposite trend: more and more women are stronger and men are weaker. In the current Korean pop culture, girls are confident and strong, and often beat and scold their boyfriends; while boys wear makeup every day to show their charm and suppleness.
